If you were a trucker who running Interstate 35 through Minnesota between 1968 and 1993, odds are that you stopped at Country Driver's Truck Stop in Burnsville at least once. Located near I-35 and Highway 13 Country Driver's was a true mom and pop truck stop that hung on as long as they could until succumbing to completion from the big chains and their mega travel centers :(

Before the proliferation of large truck stop chains made them a ubiquitous sight along the interstates, one-off mom-and-pop truck stops found on the two-lane highways were the norm, and the Tucson Truck Terminal is one such example. Located on Highway 80 east of Tucson, Arizona, Tucson Truck Terminal has been serving truckers passing through the Southwest since 1954.

At the Dixie Boy Truck Stop in Wilmington, North Carolina, a small group of people hold up inside and do their best to plan their survival as the rabid machines swarm outside. This is the gist of 1986's horror comedy, Maximum Overdrive, which was set in and around the Dixie Boy Truck Stop and based on King's 1973 short story, Trucks.

Located just off Interstate 90 at Sturgis in the heart of the Black Hills, Phil-Town Truck Stop provided complete trucking facilities that were pretty state of the art for the day. Aside from comprehensive fuel and maintenance services to keep the big rigs running, Phil-Town had 107 air-conditioned motel rooms, a modern coffee shop, and a full restaurant serving a complete menu 24-hours a day.

Huge trucks are especially ruthless, crushing everyone in their path. This design features a green goblin truck. The naming of Deno’s 6 & 85 truck stop undoubtedly referred to the old two-lane highways this truck stop once served when it was built in 1947, which made it the oldest truck stop in the state. Located in Commerce, Colorado, just outside of Denver, the 6 & 85 wasn't a modern truck stop by any means and rather very old school. There weren't banks of diesel fuel pumps or even a mechanic on site - just a diner-style restaurant and separate bar surrounded by plenty of truck parking. Whether truckers were stopping off to grab a bite before hitting the road again or going to tie one on in the bar before sleeping it off in their rig, Deno’s was a go-to spot for truck drivers for decades, remaining popular right up until their closure in 2017.

If you've driven Interstate 29 through Missouri some time in the past 45 years, you probably recall an unmistakable landmark at the Faucett exit - a tractor trailer floating high above the ground. This semi turned sign marks the location of the Farris Truck Stop. First opened in 1976, the traditional mom-and-pop truck stop was a favorite with locals and truckers alike and was a fixture in the small town of just over 800 people.

Pacific Intermountain Express (P.I.E) got their start in 1927 when the Lilenquest brothers began providing freight service in Idaho, running two Model A trucks between Pocatello to Idaho Falls. The company grew steadily, but P.I.E finally took shape after procuring three other firms and consolidating them in 1940. By 1946 P.I.E had 535 employees and was growing rapidly through ongoing acquisitions in the late 1940s and 1950s. In 1954, P.I.E became the largest hauler of petroleum products in the world. Service now extended from the west coast all the way to St. Louis and Chicago. By the mid 1960s, P.I.E extended service to the east coast through more acquisitions, giving them 67 terminals in 29 states.

Located at the junction of I-80 and US-51 in the LaSalle-Peru area of Illinois, Tiki Oasis decided to run with the tiki/exotica craze and theme their truck stop as such. From the decor of the motel rooms to signage throughout the facility, the Tiki Oasis was a little slice of Polynesian paradise right in the heart of the Midwest.

ucson's Club 21 was the sole survivor of the once common family-owned restaurants alongside US 89 through the Old Pueblo. Long after all the original roadside diners and small restaurants that once lined the famous Miracle Mile along the Stone-Drachman-Oracle Corridor were gone, Club 21 remained in the Founding Family's hands for an amazing 73-year run. Club 21 opened its doors just as US 89 was on the doorsteps of ever-increasing post World War II traffic. The restaurant's highway location at the north roundabout of Miracle Mile helped it reap a steady flow of local and traveling customers until I-10 eventually swiped most of Miracle Mile's traffic.

Located on U.S. 218 in Waterloo, Iowa, Porky’s Ranch House opened their doors in 1952 and was in existence nearly three decades before getting an upgrade to become ‘Porky’s Red Carpet.’ Boasting a friendly atmosphere and serving choice steaks, roasted chicken, prime rib of beef, seafood and more, Porky’s Ranch House was a favorite among locals and folks passing through Waterloo along Highway 218 alike.

In 1938, near the end of the Great Depression, he purchased the assets of Fageol of Oakland, California, which had gone into receivership in 1932. With the ability to turn out custom-built chassis Peterman began building logging trucks and by 1939, he began selling his trucks to the public.

White Motor Company was an American truck manufacturer based in Cleveland, Ohio, in existence from 1900 to 1980. The company started out manufacturing everything from bicycles to sewing machines, but after WWI, began focusing on trucks, selling off, or simply eliminating unrelated legacy lines. Not long after changing focus, the company was soon responsible for selling 10 percent of all trucks made in the U.S. Although White produced all sizes of trucks from light delivery to heavy semis, the decision was made after WWII to produce only heavy truck lines. White acquired several other truck manufacturing companies to grow the company post-Vietnam, but a series of unfavorable acquisitions and mergers left the company insolvent by 1980.
