This is an image of the Landscape Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. You have to think, why hasn't gravity already taken it? If I recall, the span of this rock arch is almost a hundred metres. It is an incredible sight.

Arches National Park

Within a very short distance of entering Arches National Park in Utah, the landscape becomes extraordinary. Wind, rain, and ice have worked on this place for millions of years, finding weaknesses in the sandstone to shape, to sculpt the rock into fantastic landforms. It is humbling to walk through nature's artwork here, to tremble at its forces.

We were to leave Moab that day but decided we should go to the North and South Window Arches to see the sunrise before moving on. It was spectacular. This is an image of the South Window Arch from the northwest. The low angle of the Sun is evident in the light through the arch. I love this image for the light; not so bright yet that the contrast would be too great, but enough to clearly define the texture in the shaded rock

So how many natural stone arches are there in Arches National Park in Utah; a lot? This image is a peek through the Pinetree Arch at the landscape beyond. The sky was turbulent but the Sun shone through, highlighting, especially that wonderful orange landform in the distance. I'll admit that it is difficult to take a bad photo in a place like this, but I do love this one.

This is an image of Broken Arch, one of the two thousand or more natural stone arches in the Arches National Park, Utah. But this is one of the most dramatic. We had to hike a bit to get to it but just look at that piece of natural sculpture.
