Balancing rocks, remnants of a laccolith, Grapevine Hills, Big Bend National Park, Texas, USA. A laccolith is a mushroom-shaped body of igneous rock which intrudes between rock strata. Here, the intrusive rock was exposed by erosion due to its greater resistance to weathering than the surrounding rock.
