*Sunshine On Leith* (Well, Newhaven to be precise). Number of views as of 8th May 2019 = 630. Newhaven harbour, on the Firth of Forth, was founded in 1504 by King James IV of Scotland as a royal dockyard. It became an important fishing village, famous initially for oysters and later herring. An indoor fish market was built here in 1896 and is still in use today. Newhaven is situated on the Firth of Forth, near Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. Date: 14th August 2008. A hidden corner that hugs the Water of Leith, on my way to the Botanical Gardens. A day of glorious Scottish sunshine, of a clear blue sky and gentle warmth. The stone radiates gold, brilliant white from the woodwork, with dots of yellow from sunflowers. It is quiet here, with Stockbridge a short walk away. The work is rich in realism and detail, filled with vivid colour; A wonderful souvenir of Edinburgh and a perfect gift.

According to tradition, St. Bernard's Well near Stockbridge in Edinburgh, Scotland was re-discovered by three Heriot's school boys while fishing in the Water of Leith in 1760. Legend has it that it was originally discovered by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, the founder of the Cistercian Order, in the 12th Century. After being poorly received at court, and suffering from a sickness, he went to live in a cave near the Water of Leith. There, he found the spring and drank its healing waters until his strength returned. Chemical analysis revealed that the water was similar to the sulphur springs at Harrogate in Yorkshire. In September 1760 the mineral spring was covered by a small wellhouse.

The Leith Street footbridge (usually referred to as the Bendy Bridge) which used to cross Leith Street from the St James Centre to Greenside multi-storey car park in Edinburgh, Scotland.
