Watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press paper. I thought this was an appropriate floral to post at this time of year, as we are in the season of Lent and Easter is fast approaching. It is a spring flower that, in some areas, is blooming fully and in others, is just poking through the soil. Watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press. Poppies are one of my favourite things to paint, and once I start a poppy painting, I seem to forget all other responsibilities until it is completed. Such was the case with this watercolour. Sea Kelp Watercolour and Acrylic on 140lb. cold press paper We visited the Ripley's Aquarium here in Toronto last week and one display of swaying sea kelp really caught my imagination. This was painted to emulate the feeling it evoked. This Seahorse painting also featuring Seashells, Starfish and Sand Dollars has been painted in the negative Painting Style. It was painted with Da Vinci Watercolor Tubes on cold pressed Arches Paper.

Pink Poinsettia Watercolor Negative Painting, by Conni Schaftenaar. This represents 5 glazes of color in some places that started with pinks and blues across a background, picking out the flower petals and bracts. Added some more darks and darkened some of the background leaves, picked out veining in the petals and leaves. Colors used were Permanent Rose, Ultramarine Blue, Aureolin Yellow, Sap Green, and Violet. Sap Green and Ultramarine Blue were mixed into a "teal" for some of the leaf glazes - Sap Green was not used pure anywhere.
