Saint Sebastian the holy hero, save us from the arrows of evil

Saint Sebastian, Catholic Saint - Christian martyr. Patron Saint Diriamba Nicaragua. Saint Sebastian was a Christian martyr in 288 AD. He was persecuted and shot with arrows, and then rescued and cured by Irene of Rome. Later he would visit Diocletian to ask him to repent of his sins. His efforts for the emperor's conversion resulted in him being clubbed to death. This depiction of St Sebastian was produced from a statue located in the “Basilica de San Sebastian” in Diriamba, Nicaragua, where a great celebration takes place on his feast day of January 20.

The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Sebastian, Sao Sebastiano, is dedicated to Saint Sebastian , the patron saint of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The current church was built between 1964 & 1979 & replaced a series of old churches that had served as cathedrals since 1676. Conical in form and with a 96 metres internal diameter and an overall height of 75 metres, it has a standing room capacity of over 20, 000. Canon 500D, zoom lens. The interior is dominated by 4 soaring stained glass panels at the 4 cardinale points of the building, which terminate in a clear glass cross at the apex.
