Looking over the River Thames at Abingdon in Oxfordshire to the parish church of St Mary. Dating from the early C12th, it is notable for being the second widest church in England - having five aisles! Abingdon-on-Thames is a lovely ancient market town which although now in Oxfordshire was once the county town of Berkshire! From her the Thames makes its majestic way to Wallingford and from there to Reading before reaching London and ultimately the North Sea. This is a digital art image.

Although now in Oxfordshire, Abingdon was, until 1867, the county town of Berkshire before that status was transferred to Reading. In Medieval times it was an important wool and woollen cloth producing town.
