Isn't that just 'Quacky' - Wood Duck

if it's winter time in the Pacific Nothwest, then it's time for the wood ducks to start their mating antics. It's quite a spectacle to see the ducks compete for attention from their prospective partners, preen, and appear to get jealous of each other. This wood duck seemed to to make sure people knew he was superior as he rose up and flapped his wings.

I love watching wood ducks, with their deep, rich colors and white and black stripes. I've found an awesome place where a creek runs into the lake, and wood ducks play in the shallows. It's interesting to watch the dynamics as mates show off and appear to get jealous when there are more hens than drakes or vice versa. This image is based on an original photograph taken at Lake Washington in Seattle, and then I applied watercolor effects to it.

A cute and colorful Wood Duck. This is my favorite kind of duck! Once I met a Wood Duck who lived in a butterfly zoo. All kinds of butterflies flew free inside a giant glass house filled with plants, and this Wood Duck lived there as well. He was best friends with the caretaker of the butterflies, and he followed her everywhere she went, eagerly sitting on her feet whenever she stood still. He was the funniest and friendliest duck that I’ve ever met.
