I had a small work of art created using inks on yupo paper and I decided to turn it into a pattern using photoshop and this is the result.

Watercolours were painted onto yupo paper and then sections were removed using brushes or lino cuts to create the detail.

I am rather concerned at what is happening to the oceans right now because of climate change - wanted to do something to encourage people to take some sort of action. This is a painting done with inks onto synethetic yupo paper and to which I have added text using photoshop.

Abstract Winter Forest Scene with Falling Snow, watercolor on Yupo, by Conni Schaftenaar. A sheet of Yupo flooded with Prussian Blue and my fave texturizing method of plastic wrap scrunched across it, left to dry. Then Payne's Gray to add some trees, then spattered with Bleed Proof White for the appearance of falling snow. A little bit of blotting at the bottom with a damp cotton ball to make some mounds of snow in the foreground. This was done as one of my entries in a local postcard exhibit in 4x6 size.

As part of a recent binge of doing watercolor on Yupo (a plastic sheet, rather than a paper), I was originally playing with a fun watercolor in powder form. This particular brand was Brusho, and it's a very fine powder in a small bottle. I had my sheet oriented landscape, and I was doing vertical strips of color with the various Brusho powders, spritzing the Yupo first with water to have droplets spreading and running, then spritzing the Brusho powders and tilting the sheet vertically to encourage runs and drips. Abstract Wild Green Poppy Watercolor on Yupo, by Conni Schaftenaar This began as a couple of blues (Prussian and Ultramarine, and maybe some Cerulean) flooded onto a sheet of Yupo. A sheet of plastic wrap was laid on, scrunched around to make that lovely stained glass look on the background and dried thoroughly. That took a couple of days! Then, I drew the poppy flower, buds and leaves on the background. I simply painted Sap Green over the stems and leaves and the pod side of the buds. For the flower petals and the nearly-ready-to-open buds, I wet the area, lifting out some, but not all of the blue, then added small amounts of Aureolin Yellow, which mixed with the remnants of blues to create those lovely greens. Spring Lilacs in Watercolor on Yupo, by Conni Schaftenaar I love to play with watercolor on Yupo (a plastic sheet) because it allows me to be looser than I seem to be able to achieve on paper. My OCD nature lets go just a little! And the cool thing about Yupo is that if you really don't like something, you can use a brush or a tissue and wipe it clean in an area and rework it! Very fun and cool to work with!

White Tulips in a Stained Glass Window, Watercolor and Ink on Yupo, by Conni Schaftenaar More play with watercolor on Yupo, this time doing a drawing with Micron pens first of the "window" background, then the tulips and some stems. I wanted to see if I could put wet watercolor over the ink after it was dry and not have it run and blur. It worked!!! After the ink was dry, I started putting down color in the various sections, experimenting with color combinations and letting the watercolor run and play. A couple of the WC paints are of the granulating varieties, and I LOVE the way the granulations settled out - look closely in some of the sections to see what I mean!
