Tropical hibiscus blooms with visiting butterflies.

I created the individual yellow, red, coral and pink hibiscus flowers and leaves separately on my iPad in the Procreate art app, and then created a repeating patten to use on products in my shops. The style is that of batik painting on fabric.  If you look closely, you can see the hint of “wrinkled fabric” in the background and on the flowers and leaves. I also created additional hibiscus flowers, one for each month of the year, with different color backgrounds to match up with the pattern background colors. This hibiscus and black background are for the month of September.

Green Hand Drawn Hibiscus Flower

Did you know: The Hibiscus syriacus is the national flower of South Korea, and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is the national flower of Malaysia. The hibiscus is also the national flower of Haiti. The red hibiscus is the flower of the Hindu goddess Kali, and appears frequently in depictions of her in the art of Bengal, India, often with the goddess and the flower merging in form. The hibiscus is used as an offering to goddess Kali and Lord Ganesha in Hindu worship. And in the Philippines kids love the hibiscus and use it to make bubbles. The flowers and leaves are crushed until the sticky juices come out. Hollow papaya stalks are then dipped into this and used as straws for blowing bubbles.
