Portland Bill Lighthouse is a functioning lighthouse at Portland Bill, on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. The lighthouse and its boundary walls are Grade II Listed. As Portland's largest and most recent lighthouse, the Trinity House operated Portland Bill Lighthouse is distinctively white and red striped, standing at a height of 41 metres (135 ft). The tower is approximately 114 feet.

Portland Bill in the county of Dorset has long been regarded as one of the greatest navigational hazards along the south coast of England and has been the scene of many shipwrecks over the centuries. Today the headland is dominated by the 41 metre high red and white structure of Portland's main lighthouse. However, there are in fact 3 lighthouses to be seen close to the southern tip of the Isle of Portland (as pictured). The first lighthouse at Portland was built in 1716. Pulpit Rock is a coastal feature at the southern tip of the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. The artificial stack of rock was left in the 1870s after a natural arch was cut away by quarrymen at the Bill Quarry on the famous headland, Portland Bill.

Pulpit Rock Number of views as of 13th June 2019 = 340. Pulpit Rock is a coastal feature near the southern tip of the Isle of Portland (Dorset, England). The artificial stack of rock was left in the 1870s after a natural arch was cut away by quarrymen at Portland Bill quarry. It was intentionally left in place as a quarrying relic. The rock can be climbed but of course at the climber's risk. Date: 10th November 2013.

Most people think of Portland Bill (Dorset, UK) as the quarry where all that stone that built London came from, or else the place with lighthouse at the end, but never a place with a beach. Tucked away beneath the cliffs about half way along the peninsula, lies Church Ope Cove - a secluded beach of large white pebbles (Portland Stone) and a few unglamorous beach huts. Half way up the path a turn takes you to the remains of the church - little more than a few gravestones, here completely hidden by the shrubbery. I painted this 20 inch x 30 inch picture in oils on board based on a photo I took late Spring 2016.
