Marshall, and Viveca Lindfors as well as King himself (King's acting debut actually came a year prior in the Romero film Knightriders). The film was primarily shot on location in Pittsburgh and its suburbs, including Monroeville, where Romero leased an old boys academy (Penn Hall) to build extensive sets for the film.

Consists of 5 "Jolting Tales of Horror" shorts: "Father's Day", "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill", "Something to Tide You Over", "The Crate", and "They're Creeping Up On You". Everything is linked together with animated segments and the situation of a little boy (played by Stephen King's own son, Joe King) who is a fan of the fictional comic book entitled "Creepshow". This film is a homage to 1950s EC Comics such as " " & " The Haunt of Fear ".

Creepshow is a 1982 anthology film in which five tales of terror from the 1950s comic book series of the same name are presented. The first deals with a demented old man returning from the grave to get the Father’s Day cake his murdering daughter never gave him.
