Map of the Atlantic coasts. 17th-century map of the Atlantic Ocean and its coastlines, produced in 1660 by Dutch cartographer Pieter Goos (1616-1675). The title ('West-Indische paskaert', centre right) refers to the territorial holdings of the Dutch West India Company (founded 1621). The rhumb lines and naming of rivers and ports along the coastlines makes this a portolan navigational chart. Southern South America is shown in an inset at lower left. Dutch text (upper left) names the map-maker and the city of publication (Amsterdam). Overseas territories are marked by European coats-of-arms: Spanish, Dutch, French, English, Portuguese.

Plague doctor. 17th century artwork titled 'Doktor Schnabel von Rom' (Beak Doctor from Rome). The text is in Latin. The costume's bronze mask contained aromatic herbs and reduced exposure to 'bad air', as did gloves and an oiled undergarment and cloak. Bubonic plague (the Black Death) affected Europe from the 1340s to the 1700s, killing millions. This German artwork, by Paul Furst (1608-1666), is based on an earlier work by J. Columbina, and dates from 1656. This version is from 'Die Karikatur und Satire in der Medizin' (Caricature and Satire in Medicine, 1921) by the German art historian and physician Eugen Hollander (1867-1932).

Cervantes's Don Quixote in his library, 1863 French edition. Don Quixote reading books on chivalry in his library before setting out on his quest. 'Don Quixote' is a work published in two parts (1605 and 1615) by Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616). It tells the story of a Spanish nobleman and would-be knight Alonso Quijano (who calls himself Don Quixote) and the farmer Sancho who travels with him as his squire. Artwork, by French artist Gustave Dore (1832-1883; engraved by Heliodore Joseph Pisan (1822-1890).

Visscher's view of London, 1616. Known as the Visscher panorama, this artwork was engraved by Dutch artist and map-maker Claes Visscher (1586-1652). The view dates from around 1600 and shows central London as it was before the Great Fire of London. The engraving was published in Amsterdam in 1616, under the title: 'Londinum Florentissima Britanniae Urbs Toto Orbe Celeberrimum Emporiumque'. This view looks north from Southwark on the south bank. Prominent features include Old St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the houses on Old London Bridge, then the only bridge across the Thames in London. Many church spires are shown, and ships and boats on the river.

The United East India Company was a chartered company established on the 20th March 1602 by the States General of the Netherlands amalgamating existing companies into the first joint-stock company in the world, granting it a 21-year monopoly to carry out trade activities in Asia. Shares in the company could be bought by any resident of the United Provinces and then subsequently bought and sold in open-air secondary markets. It is sometimes considered to have been the first multinational corporation. It was a powerful company, possessing quasi-governmental powers, including the ability to wage war, imprison and execute convicts, negotiate treaties, strike its own coins, and establish colonies.

We have different colors and numbers for 1800's , 1700's, 1600's, 1500's, 1400's, 1300's, 1200's, 1100's, and anyone finding a coin from the year 1000's and earlier you will need to get yourself the Legend Club Member design. Cork cells. 17th-century illustration of cells from a sample of cork wood, as seen under a microscope by English natural philosopher Robert Hooke (1635-1703). Hooke pioneered the new science of microscopy and published detailed drawings of observations made with his microscopes. This illustration appeared in his 'Micrographia' (1665). The term cells was coined by Hooke in this work, describing the pores observed in the cork. Hooke was one of the founding fellows (1663) of the Royal Society, and served as its Curator of Experiments and Secretary.

As a member of the governing council of Jamestown, Virginia, Smith led two voyages on the Chesapeake Bay. English officials instructed Smith and other colonists to map the area, claim land, find gold and other riches, trade with the natives and find passage to the Pacific Ocean. During his journeys, Smith kept a journal of the incidents his crew experienced and detailed descriptions of what he saw. He charted the land and waterways, and later drew an elaborate and remarkably accurate map of the Chesapeake Bay. These are Powhatan Indians.
