A rural scene looking over the Berkshire (or North Wessex) Downs with sheep grazing in the foreground. This scene was captured near the road from Streatley-on-Thames leading to Blewbury. It was a beautiful spring day with the countryside just beginning to stir from winter sleep. Canon G12

A digital oil painting of farmland on the Berkshire - or North Wessex -Downs. This scene is between East Ilsley and Hampstead Norreys - a little way north of Newbury. Captured in Early May with fresh green crops leading the eye to the bright yellow field of oilseed.

A pleasure boat taking its passengers along the River Thames passing the parish church at Bisham in Berkshire, England. The 12th century parish church of All Saints at Bisham stands on the banks of the Thames and is next door to Bisham Abbey, the national Sports Centre. Unsurprisingly, racing boat crews can often be seen training on the Thames here. The pleasure boat has probably come from the Buckinghamshire town of Marlow on Thames just downstream.

Starlings tend to murmurate at dusk whilst it’s just about still light. Dusk is the transition from sunset to night time, which gets earlier as winter progresses until the December solstice, at which point dusk starts getting later again. If you want to spot a murmuration then head out an hour before sunset and wait patiently as the sun goes down.

The village of Yattendon in West Berkshire. The village sits in the Berkshire (or North Wessex) Downs on the road between Pangbourne and Newbury. Over the road here is the Royal Oak, a public house right in the village centre. Also in the centre , just out of shot, is the popular village shop. In fron to the pub is what was once the village well - now a bus shelter. The image has a pastel finish

A view across the River Thames in the county of Berkshire, from Eton to the buildings clustered on the Windsor bank. Towering above the riverside houses are the buildings of Windsor Castle and in particular the famous Round Tower. The tower sits on an artificial mound or 'motte', the original being built by Henry II in c1170. The present tower is a remodelling under George IV in the 1820s. The castle has always been a Royal residence, a retreat from the centre of London. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

The parish church of St Lawrence at Hungerford in Berkshire, England. The church stands slightly to the west of the town alongside the Kennet and Avon Canal. It was rebuilt in 1814 in the Regency Gothic style and was faced with Bath stone which was brought along the canal. A little later, in mid-Victorian times it was further renovated. The canal was constructed between 1794 and 1810 to link Bristol with London via Reading. Abandoned in the early 1900s, it was renovated and reopened in 1990.

A cottage down a country lane in the village of Sulham in Berkshire, England. The village lies at the foot of a steep and wooded hill just to the south of Pangbourne. Several of the cottages in Sulham are in this rather whimsical 'ornamental cottage' style, having been built in the mid 1800s by the local landowners, the Wilder family, who lived in nearby Sulham House. A digital drawing of the village of Tidmarsh in West Berkshire. Standing on the crossroas here is the Greyhound pub, a C13th half timbered and thatched building. Ahead is The Street, the main road through the village , now the A340 but once, apparently the Roman road which joined Silchester (Calleve Atrebatum) in Hampshire with Dorchester-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. Along this road is a row of old cottages, the Georgian village pump, the round toll house and the old school.

There are benches besides for the people to sit and enjoy the river. This bench is on the Barry Avenue next to off street car park.

The church of St Andrew's in the village of Chaddleworth in the heart of West Berkshire. There was a church here in Saxon times and some stones from then can apparently be found at the base of the tower. However, the building as we see it is mainly Norman with 13th century additions. The south door is a superb example of decorated Norman work.The village of Chaddleworth lies on the southern slopes of the Berkshire downs on the A338 which runs between Hungerford and Wantage.

Life under the dome ~ Silent Running

The church of St Mary the Virgin, the parish church of Bucklebury in Berkshire, England. Sitting in the centre of the village near the River Pang, the church dates from the 11th century and has a fine Norman doorway.The Perpendicular period bell tower was built in the 15th century.

Temple Island is a small island or eyeot standing in the River Thames between Buckinghamshire and Berkshire near the village of Remenham, Berkshire. It marks the start of the Henley Royal Regatta course. The 'temple' was designed by James Wyatt in 1771 as a fishing lodge for nearby Fawley Court. In the 1980s it was purchased by Henley Royal Regatta and has now been restored to its former glory and is now used for corporate events. The downstream area of the island is a nature reserve. This bright and colourful illustration features the main stage of Reading Music Festival in Berkshire, England.

The view from the bridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal at Kintbury in West Berkshire. The canal passes through the village by way of Kintbury Lock, taking us to Hungerford, Devizes, Bath and Bristol. This peaceful scene would once have been busy with canal boats taking goods, especially Bath stone, to Reading and London, together with agricultural goods and produce. This was the view in late October with the water vreflecting the golden foliage of the surrounding trees.

The geese are suspiciously looking the camera when it is getting closer to them. It is a sunny Sunday morning at the banks river Thames in Windsor and people are enjoying feeding the birds.
