The castle is first mentioned in 1449, although there had been a port at the nearby village of Blackness serving the royal burgh of Linlithgow since the thirteenth century. The castle came into royal hands in 1453 when the surrounding lands were annexed by King James II. It spent much of the next century serving as a royal prison housing the more prestigious of the King’s various enemies. Longannet is on the shore of the upper Firth of Forth near Kincardine on Forth, Fife, Scotland. It is the most powerful generating station in Scotland. When constructed it was the largest and most powerful coal-fired station in Europe, and it is now the third largest, after Bełchatów in Poland and Drax in Yorkshire, England. It is a regional landmark, dominating the Forth skyline.

This interesting little church sits proud atop a mound in the little village of Blackness, near Linlithgow, Scotland. Built in the late 1800s Blackness Mission Church is linked with Carriden Parish Church 3.5km upriver. It is still open for worship, services being held at 10am on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. The six sided steeple is one of several architectural features.
