Br Standard 4 Steam Locomotive Magnets

A black and white image of BR Fairburn 4MT No. 42073 at Lakeside Railway Station, Windermere in the English Lake District. This Locomotive is on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway at the southern end of Lake Windermere, running along the Leven Valley. Only two Fairburn 4MT Locomotives have survived into preservation and they are both based on this railway!

Here we have a photograph of British Railways Standard Class 4MT steam locomotive number 76079 photographed in the autumn on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway with a rake of British Rail red coaches. This class of locomotive was designed for mixed traffic and would have been seen pulling either freight or passenger coaches.

The Engineer is about to exchange the token with the Signalman that allows the train to run on the next section of single line track. The standard class 7 is also known as the Britannia Class as Britannia was the first engine of 55 in this class.

43106 is the only surviving example of an LMS Ivatt Class 4 Mogul (2-6-0 wheel arrangement). The locomotive was designed by H.G. Ivatt for medium freight work but was also used on passenger services. BR classified them as 4MT (MT for Mixed Traffic). This locomotive entered service in April 1951 and officially withdrawn from service in June 1968. 43106 can be seen on the Severn Valley Railway and is photographed here approaching Arley Station.

BR Standard Class 4, Swanage Railway, March 2019 An ex-British Railways Standard Class 4, 2-6-4 tank engine on the Swanage Railway (Dorset, England) steaming up the incline from Corfe Castle, next stop Harman's Cross. This locomotive is believed to have been renumbered from 80104 to 80126, and was built in Brighton in the mid-1950s. Date: 24th March 2019.
