From this summer's outing at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington, DC -- a break from the cold outside. Cattails are used for decorative purposes, in floral arrangements and baskets -- they are rampant at Kenilworth.

I like watching wildlife around ponds and lakes, so I painted this close-up of a dragonfly in the cattails. I used acrylics with a pearlescent paint for the shine on the dragonfly and the wings. I like how the wings turned out with being able to see through them to a certain extent and the shine/glare on wings in the light to make them look real.
