Wang's Noodle House opened their doors in 1968 and was a San Francisco favorite for years to come because of its authentic Chinese menu as well as its late hours, serving until 4:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Wang's was little more than a hole in the wall of Chinatown, but still managed to pack the house with regulars and tourists alike until their untimely closing in 2004 after a fire gutted their building.

A 1974 American neo-noir mystery film

Generally considered one of the greatest movies of the seventies and arguably the greatest private eye flick ever made (the only other contender is John Huston's The Maltese Falcon) 1974's Chinatown, which unleashed the character of Los Angeles gumshoe J.J. "JAKE" GITTES upon the world, is a superb private eye mystery and modern-day film noir thriller.

The Blind Seer was one of NYC's oldest continuously operating family businesses in Chinatown. Operating across multiple generations of the Zhou family, from 1883 until 1992, the curio shop and fortune-teller business was a favorite of locals and tourists alike, but a combination of rising rents and a lack of interest from the next generation meant the end for this Lower Manhattan landmark. Thankfully, they made it through the '70s, which gave us a killer souvenir t-shirt that is now back to live another life.

Chinatown NY Design

The J. J. Gittes design is inspired by the Jack Nicholson character in the films Chinatown and The Two Jakes. Gittes is a Los Angeles Private Eye in the vein of Philip Marlowe and Sam Spade, specialising in sleazy divorce work. Nicholson first appeared as Gittes in Roman Polanski's classic Chinatown, considered by many one of the best films of the Seventies.

Hauntingly, figures emerge. As if through the dreamlike magic of the street arts themselves. They become entangled, as we attempt to simply move through unnoticed; Harmless though they are.

Big Trouble in Little China (also known as John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China) is a 1986 American fantasy martial arts action-comedy film directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun and James Hong. The film tells the story of truck driver Jack Burton (Russell), who helps his friend Wang Chi (Dun) rescue Wang's green-eyed fiancée from bandits in San Francisco's Chinatown. They go into the mysterious underworld beneath Chinatown, where they face an ancient sorcerer named David Lo Pan (Hong), who requires a woman with green eyes to marry him in order to release him from a centuries-old curse.

I sketched this bird in Chinatown Sydney Australia. The store owner was most fascinated at my interest in his dead birds....so interested he chased me away with a meat cleaver!
