Not the first time that I drew this particular church. In 2015 I made a pastel. This time the angle was steeper. The effect of the light on the roof tiles and the zigzag pattern reminded me of the appearance of a jagged knife.

The Court Pond (De Hofvijver) Situated in the heart of The Hague (Den Haag) The Court Pond (De Hofvijver) is next to the Tweede Kamer (dutch Parliament) at the Binnenhof. It is a great spot to linger about and to me symbolizes the quiet, almost village-like character of the center of this old city. If The Hague ever were to have a unique landmark, this certainly would be a strong candidate. Basic Geometry I wanted to break up the scene into three basic geometrical forms: circles, plains and triangles. Return to the Spot The second one of Estate ‘Oosterbeek’ this week. Yesterday’s was my graphite pencil drawing ‘Oosterbeek – 07-04-20’. I quite liked it and so I returned today, trying to shake off this corona blues. This time I chose a specific spot in the park where there is a bend in a brook running through it. I found the reflections of the tree just enough to give my drawing something extra. It gave me some rectangulars counterbalancing all things organic. They also avoid the scenery for becoming to clotted with medium toned subtle branches, leafs and grasses. This I always find very troublesome to deal with. In fact Spring can be a tedious season. Pittoresque A pastel drawing of Estate ‘Reigersbergen’ adjacent to the Haagse Bos in quite some impressionistic moves. You can see me walk there very often because I live close by. Because of my artistic activities and my need to keep up my condition I take 10.000 steps per day. Consequently this leads me to this area automatically because all other directions lead to concrete buildings and flats only. The estate forms a link between The Haagse Bos and Estate ‘Marlot’. St. James Church (Grote of St.-Jacobskerk) at The Hague - 10-03-15 Blasting in the Sun The St. James Church (Grote of St.-Jacobskerk) is situated in The Hague and I pass it by often. Then one day the sun was bursting out of the sky. Consequently the church rooftop was blasting in the sun. Struck by the light I was and the church was heavily backlighted and dark at the bottom.
