Black panthers have long been revered in many cultures and are often featured in art and folklore. However, their populations have been threatened by habitat loss and hunting, and they are considered endangered in some areas.

Many of the trails I frequent follow along rivers and streams. I was able to capture a Great Blue Heron in a standing wetland area. This is a typical habitat stance of a Great Blue Heron wading in the water hunting for food. I once had had a Great Blue Heron come to my backyard to take fish from my fish pond. Easy hunting! They are surprisingly much taller when you see them up close standing on land! This will be a great addition as a note book available in the stationery prints. Albert was a prehistoric animal just wanting to be loved and was thrilled that paleontologists named his species Albertosaurus. Every extinct reptile was jealous of Albert and will be for millions of years.

Ice on winter bittersweet. American Bittersweet is a perennial vine native to central and eastern North America. The flower are plain and uninteresting compared to the berries that follow. As the flowers fade orange-yellow capsules appear. In late fall the capsules open to show bright red berries inside. The berries remain on the plant well into winter, adding colour to the winter landscapes. The berries last throughout the winter and easy to spot. The crimson berry-like fruits are toxic to us mammals but highly sought after by birds. Here the berries have been released leaving the orange seed pods to brighten the winter scene. A lot of times it is very difficult to shoot a butterfly. Luckily this one was still long enough to get a nice shot. Helianthus is a genus comprising about 70 species of annual and perennial flowering plants in the daisy family Asteraceae commonly known as sunflowers. Except for three South American species, the species of Helianthus are native to North America and Central America. The best-known species is the common sunflower.

I was out for a walk during a snowstorm when I discovered this holly as a winter plant. Holly is an evergreen that last throughout the winter season. I thought the bright red berries made a nice contrast against the snow. I hope this watercolor impression will bring you joy and brighten your day.
