Ancient Greek history is rich in epic stories of the ancient Spartans. Lacedaemon, i.e. Sparta was highly admired by all Greek city states for its civic virtue and military prowess shown by king Leonidas and the 300 Spartans at the battle of Thermopylae.

2021 will be a big year for people of Greek heritage around the world. In 1821 the War of Independence began what has resulted in what is now called 200 Years of Modern Greece. The laurel wreath design will attract attention and be a nice conversation starter.

About 20 km to the Northeast of Konitsa town (Ioannina, Epirus, Greece), close to the Greek-Albanian borders, there is a small group of beautiful villages, called "The Stone Villages". Those villages are Monastiri, Molista and Ganadio. They were the only villages of the region that were lucky to avoid the Nazi's brutality. The Nazis burned and devastated almost every village of the region except those three, so in the "Stone villages" you can enjoy excellent traditional architecture and beautiful stone houses. Life there isn't easy. During winter, very few inhabitants remain in these remote villages. In Ganadio (the most beautiful of them 3), for example, the total population is 3 people! The New York Apollo was an American soccer team in the ASL from 1973 to 1980. The team was previously known as the New York Greeks and played in the Eastern Professional Soccer Conference and the German American Soccer League. The club joined the ASL when it took over the inactive New York Inter franchise before the 1971 season. After the 1972 season, the club changed their name to the New York Apollo. Before the 1980 season, the team became the New York United.

This is Mr Stelios Kamakaris, but everyone in Milos island (Cyclades, Greece) knows him by his nickname, "Bizas" or "Bizis", I think. He has been a seaman, a fisherman all his life. How did I meet him? I was surching for an open "Syrma" (plural="Syrmata", a special kind of tiny seaside buildings used as boat "parking" and summer residenses, seen mostly in Milos island,), I wanted to take some inside photos. I found him sitting in his "Syrma" in Mandrakia, talking with another gentleman. "Can I take a couple of photos from your Syrma?", I asked him. Ancient Greek theater masks helped define the characters the actors were playing. In a tragedy, masks were more life-like; in a comedy or satyr play, they were ugly and grotesque.
