Evening time in Murano, one of the Venetian islands. It's been raining and the lights from the shops and restaurants are reflected in the canal and the wet sidewalk, as one man heads home with his shopping and another returns in his little boat, after a day' spent fishing. I edited this in photoshop CC and Topaz.

A Thames sailing barge of the type once common around the Thames estuary and England's East Coast. Being flat bottomed with a shallow draft of only two and a half feet they could sail into the creeks and inlets around the Thames estuary to carry goods. The collapsible main mast allowed them to sail under bridges.They were also very stable and possessed cargo space above and below deck.

A sailing barge heading back to harbour under power after a day's work. Originally photographed off Blakeney Point with textures and tones added during processing to enhance the dreamy nature of the scene. Sailing barges or Thames barges were once the 'workhorses' around the coast of East Anglia and into the Thames estuary as far as London transporting a wide variety of goods.

While walking about, heard the roar of propellers, sun glinting as the C130 heads home to CFB Trenton

Late on the evening of Christmas Day, we headed out to Lake Minnewanka to see if we could get a glimpse of the northern lights, which were supposed to be quite strong. Not only did we see them dancing above the peaks at the end of the lake, but we also caught a glimpse of Santa heading back home to the North Pole (or it could have been a meteorite -- you decide)!
