Iridescent Feathers This pattern is a fractal pattern that I created using a program called Frax Pro on my iPad. Fractals are never ending patterns based on mathematical equations. I'll be the first to admit I'm not a math whiz, but I'm amazed at how beautiful a math equation can be. Fractals can also be found in nature. Examples are the nautilus shell, snowflake patterns and even our galaxies. This pattern is based on the Mandelbrot equation. This particular fractal pattern reminds me of peacock feathers and have a bit of iridescence to them, hence the name Iridescent Feathers. Compilation uses three images using a wood grain to blend into the background.

A gorget, from the French term, gorge, meaning throat, was a piece of armor protecting the throat in the middle ages. Here it refers to the colorful feathers covering the throat of a hummingbird. In this image, of a male Allen's Hummingbird, the gorget has hues that go from yellow, to copper, to red. In bright sunlight it would be iridescent red, and white at the brightest parts, reflecting the sunlight. Here, on a cloudy day, it is easier to see the shifting hues.

This peacock feather "eyespot" detail eloquently demonstrates that no person's designs and patterns are as sublimely striking or fantastically fabulous as those of Mother Nature.
