Dallas is an American prime time television soap opera that aired on CBS from April 2, 1978, to May 3, 1991. The series revolves around an affluent and feuding Texas family, the Ewings, who own the independent oil company Ewing Oil and the cattle-ranching land of Southfork. The series originally focused on the marriage of Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes, whose families were sworn enemies with each other. As the series progressed, Bobby's elder brother, oil tycoon J.R. Ewing, became the show's breakout character, whose schemes and dirty business became the show's trademark. When the show ended on May 3, 1991, J.R. was the only character to have appeared in every episode.

Harry Sinclair had his eye on a rival, Prairie Oil and Gas – a Rockefeller interest as big as Sinclair Consolidated. Sinclair held a half interest in the Ajax pipeline, which was jeopardizing the entire Prairie system by siphoning off most of their pipeline traffic. But in 1930, Sinclair sold its half to Standard Oil Company, along with its 50 percent interest in the Sinclair Crude Oil Purchasing Company, for $72.5 million cash.

Wm. Penn was a gas brand of Canfield Oil Company of Cleveland, Ohio. SOHIO purchased it in 1945, but the Wm. Penn brand remained. In the 1970s, BP purchased SOHIO and rebranded some BP stations in the eastern U.S. to Wm. Penn. The brand remained until around 1990, when they were rebranded to BP.

The Wakefield Oil Company was founded by Charles Cheers Wakefield in 1899. The brand "Castrol" originated after researchers added castor oil to their lubricant formulations. In 1966, Castrol was acquired by company Burmah Oil, which was renamed Burmah-Castrol. Burmah-Castrol was purchased by London-based multinational BP in 2000.

Ewing Oil Company is a fictional petroleum conglomerate from the television series Dallas, whose corporate offices are were located in Dallas, Texas. Jock Ewing founded Ewing Oil in 1930 and ran it until 1977, when he retired. Several years prior to the debut of Dallas, J.R. Ewing had returned home to Southfork Ranch after serving in Vietnam and became Vice-President of Ewing Oil. When Jock retired, J.R. became president. Bobby Ewing returned to Dallas and joined the executive management team. J.R. resented his presence and wanted him out of the way. Things came to a head at the end of 1978, when Bobby resigned and started up Ewing Construction.

During September 1919, Harry Sinclair restructured Sinclair Oil and Refining Corporation, Sinclair Gulf Corporation, and 26 other related entities into Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1932, this new entity was renamed Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1943, it was renamed Sinclair Oil Corporation. Near the beginning of the Great Depression, Sinclair sold the remaining interest in its pipeline subsidiary to Standard Oil Company (Indiana) for US$72.5 million (Standard Oil had purchased a 50% interest in the pipeline subsidiary in 1921). With these funds, including an additional US$33.5 million from an additional common stock issue, Sinclair retired several promissory notes and prepared to weather the Depression.

Hudson Oil Company of Canada Ltd. was dissolved in 1971. It was not incorporated in Alberta but may be in another province or federally. It does not appear in the oil and gas directories for the 1950s and 1960s.

In 1949 E. C. Joullian formed Westoc Oil and Gas and began construction of a pipeline to supply natural gas from the West Edmond gas field to Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company’s (OG&E) new Mustang Power plant. On May 5, 1950, Westoc began operations of Mustang’s first pipeline. In 1951, E.C. Joullian formed Rock Creek Oil and Gas to build a pipeline from Sohio Oil Company’s Elmore gas plant to OG&E’s new Arbuckle power plant and this pipeline became operational in April 1953. During the remainder of the decade Westoc was merged into a new company called Oklahoma Resources Development Company which then merged with Rock Creek Oil and Gas to form Mustang Fuel Corporation.

And up from the ground came a bubbling crude. Oil that is.

The Northwest Refining Company from Cut Bank opened a new bulk plant in Shelby Montana, featuring Grizzly gasoline, which is widely accepted by motorists in northern Montana, and is made entirely from Montana crude oil. Location of the new plant is south of the railroad tracks, directly across from the Sullivan Hotel. A. J. Wilcox is the distributor of the gasoline. This company was sold to Carter Oil a subsidiary of Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey in 1944.

Atlantic was founded as the Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company in 1866 in the then-fledgling oil business. In 1874, the company, now known as Atlantic Refining, was purchased by John D. Rockefeller and integrated as part of Standard Oil. The acquisition gave Rockefeller a major presence on the East Coast in his growing empire. In 1886, after acquiring many other oil companies, the Standard Oil Trust organized territories for their companies. Atlantic's territory covered the entire state of Delaware, the southern half of New Jersey, and the southeasternmost corner of Pennsylvania, essentially giving Atlantic the entire Philadelphia area.

Founded in 1930, Dinoco Oil, formerly known as Dinoco Gasoline, is an international gas and oil company of fossil fuel owned by Tex Dinoco, and one of America's most popular and consumed products. The company has covered lots of events, including 2006's Dinoco 400 for the Piston Cup. The company is also Strip "The King" Weathers', Cal Weathers', and Cruz Ramirez's sponsor in the Piston Cup Racing Series.
