*The Sheldonian* Number of views as of 24th January 2018 = 825. One of the city of Oxford's finest architectural masterpieces, the Sheldonian Theatre was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and built in the 1660s with funds donated by Gilbert Sheldon, who held the offices of Bishop of London, Archbishop of Canterbury and Chancellor of Oxford University. Its purpose was to provide an appropriate venue for the principal meetings and public ceremonies of the University, and this remains its purpose today, though it can also be hired for conferences and similar functions. All Saints, Oxford Number of views as of 8th November 2017 = 700. In March 1700, the spire of the original All Saints church of Oxford, England (dating from 1122) collapsed, destroying most of the building. After an appeal for funds, the current building was completed in 1720. However in 1975, the church was deconsecrated and is now the library of Lincoln College. Date: 30th October 2010.

Last year as we travelled along the M40 I noticed a display of figures on the hillside that seeme to march as we travelled by. It so intrigued me that on our return journey later in the week we decide to go and take a closer look. This was what we found. It was incredibly moving and hopefully raised a lot of money for the British Legion.

Almshouses, Chipping Norton Number of views as of 7th September 2017 = 210. These almshouses in the Cotswold town of Chipping Norton (Oxfordshire, England) were founded in 1640 by a gentlemen named Henry Cornish, 'for eight aged widows who had to be of honest and godly life and conversation'. He also bequeathed 12 other cottages around the town 'to be let to honest people who could afford to rent them', but he stipulated that the rents should never be increased. Cornish was evidently quite a wealthy gentleman and benefactor, but his personal life was tinged with tragedy. Although he and his wife had 12 children, 10 died in childhood and the other 2 only lived until their 30s. Date: 14th February 2016.

The lift bridge (221) at Thrupp on the Oxford Canal just north of Kidlington in Oxfordshire, England. Thrupp is a purely canal village - the road stops here! Aubreys Bridge or, as it is sometimes known, Smithy Bridge takes traffic to a car park and tea rooms. Boats passing through the bridge take a sharp left turn to moor or continue on the way to Banbury. This part of the Oxford Canal opened in 1788 and largely follows the course of the River Cherwell. Hailey is on the edge of the Chiltern Hills and in the backgound can be seen the blue haze of the Berkshire - or North Wessex Downs. Here we're standing outside the King William IV public house which lies at the dead end of the lane which largely comprises the hamlet of Hailey. The building itself is C17th and is Grade II listed. The Brasenose is a 17th century pub in the village of Cropredy, 4 miles north of Banbury (Oxfordshire, England). Originally 3 cottages, it was built on land purchased from the Brasenose college. The Brasenose Arms is the only pub in the country with this name. The name is thought to be a corruption of the word 'brasenhuis' or brewhouse, the college having been built on the site of an ancient brewery. 5th April 2024.

St Mary's, Cropredy Number of views as of 14th May 2017 = 230. The Church of St Mary the Virgin in the Oxfordshire village of Cropredy, near Banbury. The majority of the Church dates from the 14th century, though parts of it are up to 300 years older than that. The Church belfry houses 8 bells, one of which commemorates the annual music festival Fairport's Cropredy Convention which has been held in the village since 1976. In 1644, Cropredy was the scene of a major battle in the English Civil War, though despite heavy losses on the Parliamentary side, this particular battle ended in a stalemate. Viewed from the Thames Path long-distance trail - the bridge over the Thames at Goring. This bridge, carrying the B4009 road connects the two villages of Streatley in Berkshire with Goring in Oxfordshire. The present bridge was built in 1923 and replaced an earlier one dating from 1837 which was constructed of timber. This also forms the river crossing section of both the Ridgeway and the Thames Path. Just upstream here can be seen Goring Lock.

Church Green, Witney Number of views as of 13th December 2017 = 470. Elegant Cotswold stone houses and trees line both sides of Church Green, in the town of Witney, Oxfordshire, England. The Norman church of St Mary the Virgin stands at the southern end of the green looking towards the town centre. This shot faces west. Witney is an attractive market town close to the River Windrush, approximately 12 miles west of Oxford. It was once famous for the production of high-quality blankets, which were very popular with native Americans who traded beaver skins for them. Witney is the parliamentary seat of current Conservative party leader David Cameron, so the town is sure to feature in the news over the next few weeks in the run-up to the UK g...

Burford Number of views as of 17th February 2017 = 900. The picturesque high street of the Cotswold town of Burford, Oxfordshire, England (about 18 miles from Oxford). The town merchants were granted permission to hold a market in Burford over 900 years ago and the wool industry ensured the town's prosperity throughout the 14th to 17th centuries. Among its many listed buildings, several date from the 15th century. Most are built from the attractive honey-coloured Cotswold stone but there are also one or two half-timbered buildings too. Today the town is popular with tourists, who flock there at weekends and on public holidays. Date: 21st March 2010.

Wicker is hard woven fibre formed into a rigid material, usually used to make baskets or furniture. Water Terraces Number of views as of 19th December 2017 = 125. The Water Terraces garden of a certain stately home in Oxfordshire, England. Not the best of conditions for this shot (cold, damp and overcast) but that's England in February! Date: 13th February 2016.

Looking across a green field to the village of Ipsden in South Oxfordshire which sits on the edge of the Chiltern Hills overlooking the wide expanse of the Thames Valley - a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In this view, approaching from the A4074 between Reading and Wallingford, we can see the parish church of St Mary the Virgin - the present building dating from the C12th. the belfry which we see is somewhet later dating from the C19th. Image finished as a pastel painting.

The church of St Botolph at Swyncombe in South Oxfordshire. This lovely old church in the Chiltern Hills lies about 4.5 miles from Wallingford and is fairly close to the B481 running between Nettlebed and Watlington. Seen here with a springtime carpet of primulas, the outside of the church is typically early Norman with a round apsidal end to the chancel. Inside it was restored in 1850. The image has been finished as a coloured pencil drawing.

Harvest time at Tiddington in Oxfordshire

Looking over from the moorings on the Henley (Oxfordshire) side of the River Thames to the Remenham (Berkshire) side where the crew' tents and grandstands are being erected for Henley's annual Royal Regatta. This prestigious event which attracts rowers and spectators from home and abroad has been ongoing since 1839. The 'Royal' addition to its name came when Prince Albert became patron, a position taken on by all reigning monarchs since then. The Regatta lasts for five days at the start of July. Oars propped up and ready on a landing stage at Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. This could be called the 'home of rowing' as it is here each july that the world-famous Henley Royal Regatta takes place. This image was captured as preparations for the event were in progress. The races are run between Temple Island and a finishiung line just downstream of Henley Bridge - a distance of 1 mile 550 yards.
