The beautiful sweep of sand and sea at Rhossili Bay on the coast of the Gower Peninsula, South Wales. This is the view from the cliff top leading to Worms Head which forms one side of the bay. Unsurprisingly this stretch of sand has been voted Britain's Best Beach for two years running - and the third best in Europe! Rhossili Bay, on the western end of the Gower Peninsula (South Wales) lies within an area designated as the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the United Kingdom. Its superb sandy beach (known locally as Llangenith Sands) stretches 3 miles from the village of Rhossili to Burry Holms (top left), a small island which can only be accessed at low tide. Ascending Rhossili Down (top right), with its Iron Age remains and wartime fortifications, you reach The Beacon, at 193 metres, the highest point on the Gower Peninsula.
