This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Commemorate the POCs and Drag Queens that stood up in New York City for LGBTQI rights in 1969 at World Pride in NYC.

In the 60s, police officers would hang signs that said "this is a raided premises" on the doors and walls of suspected secret gay hang out spots. Designating them as businesses that were often victims of police raids. Businesses like the infamous stonewall Inn, where the stonewall riots occurred. Remember the first pride was a riot.

Civil disobedience has seen a long, storied history. When a group stands up for their rights against the abuse of those "in power" it forever changes things for the rest of us. #Respect

Harris Glenn Milstead (October 19, 1945 – March 7, 1988), better known by his stage name Divine, was an American actor, singer, and drag queen. Closely associated with the independent filmmaker John Waters, Divine was a character actor, usually performing female roles in cinematic and theatrical productions, and adopted a female drag persona for his music career.

According to the stories, Marsha Johnson threw a shot glass into a mirror saying ‘I got my civil rights’ as the police burned down the gay bar. This is honor of pride.

The reason for the season, and how Pride all began. This design honors Marsha P. Johnson and all of the other brave individuals who took a stand, started a riot, and began the traditions and the freedoms that we know today.

This is an art piece of Marsha P. Johnson, a black trans woman, artist, and activist who has often been named as one of the first of those present to defy the police during the Stonewall Protests of 1969. These details matter, of course, but in a broader sense, the legacy of the Stonewall uprising is one of community, and of a moment in history when marginalized people stood up and declared that they’d had enough.

Taken as I was walking the small streets of one of the small villages outside of Paris, France. I noticed this little flowery plant just hanging on of the stone work of the fence wall.
