Three Kings - Magi

The Biblical Magi, also known as the Three Wise Men, Three Kings, and Three Magi, are distinguished foreigners who visit Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh in homage to his birth. As such, the Magi are commemorated on the feast day of Epiphany—sometimes called "Three Kings Day"—and commonly appear in the nativity celebrations of Christmas. The Magi appear solely in the Gospel of Matthew, which states they were "wise men" who came "from the east" to worship the "king of the Jews".

This block print is a recreation of an image from the Benedictional of St Aethelwold, an illuminated manuscript from c. 10th century. I have recreated one of the scenes where the three kings are bringing their gifts to Mary and the infant Jesus. I printed this lino print by hand in before scanning it to make this design.

This year the Three Wise Men invited Santa to "chinchorrear" around the island PLUS Coquito because its Coquito Season! - except for the responsible driver, of course... Merry Xmas! Our Coquito, the Puerto Rican Eggnog, is our Christmas homemade drink, enjoyed with or without alcohol, with a smooth & sweet coconut flavor. "Chinchorreo" is a popular social activity in which we road-trip in groups through "eat & drink" routes around the island, enjoying our culinary delights with our favorite people while dancing & singing together.
