Arthur Conan Doyle created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 when he published a Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction. Sidney Edward Paget (4 October 1860 – 28 January 1908) was a British illustrator of the Victorian era, best known for his illustrations that accompanied Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories in The Strand Magazine. When Sir Arthur Conan Doyle revived the Sherlock Holmes series with The Hound of the Baskervilles, serializedVictorian era in The Strand in 1901–02, he specifically requested that Paget be the illustrator.

I won't recount the story of Topsy the elephant here. If you don't know it already, feel free to look it up -- you will find it either blackly hilarious or deeply upsetting. Or both. Let's just say it's something they never mention in school when they teach you about Thomas Edison. Or elephants. I started out trying to design a TOPSY VENGEANCE SQUAD team jersey, but it didn't quite work out and ended up as this. Unfortunately I also drew it on antique ledger paper for no particular reason, and Ghengisjohn had to pull the artwork off digitally for me to recolor. Which I did, with markers and some gel ink. Colors here are all over the highway, from none to vaguely aqua to what the hell grape. Let's face it, I don't know what I'm do...

Little Nell and her grandfather are two characters from the novel The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens. Set in Victorian times the plot has Nell and her grandfather wandering the English countryside after they lost everything because of her grandfather's gambling debts.

This little guy lives on the fence of an old Victorian mansion not too far from my home. He keeps an eye on things, and never fails to bring a smile to my lips when I see him. I'm sure I'm not the only one he delights! But I don't think I would want to anger him...or her (hard to tell gender on these things...!)
