Weston Super Mare Magnets

There are many of these different wooden markers on Weston-super-Mare promenade all with different designs and intrigue to them. How they make you look though the holes that have been cut out of them, to see the view from a different perspective.

Originally opened in 1904, the Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare (North Somerset, England) remains open despite two fires, in 1930 and 2008. The pier is 366 metres long. The town's other pier (Birnbeck Pier) is now derelict. 11th February 2024.

Nikon D5200: lens: AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm Birnbeck Pier, situated on the Bristol Channel in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, England, is the only pier in the country which links the mainland to an island, linking to Birnbeck Island, a rocky island just to the west of Worlebury Hill. The grade II* listed pier was designed by Eugenius Birch and opened in 1867. Part of the north pier collapsed during storms on 30 December 2015, and now The Victorian Society has included the pier on its list of the ten most endangered buildings of the country.

Brean Sands Number of views as of 8th March 2018 = 575. Brean Sands is a 7 mile stretch of beach between Brean Down (south of Weston-Super-Mare) and Burnham-on-Sea, in the county of Somerset, England. The sands are popular with holiday makers and the village of Brean (pronounced Bree-an by the locals) has a population of just over 2,000 people, but this swells to 20 times that in peak periods as visitors arrive with their tents and caravans. Cars are allowed to park on the beach, but bathers must beware as the sand gives way to the soft mud of the Bristol Channel at low tide. Date: 23rd May 2015. The Church of St Nicholas, Uphill Number of views as of 22nd May 2019 = 1540. The old church of St Nicholas (Uphill, near Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England) stands on a hill overlooking Brean Down and the mouth of the River Axe. There are superb views across Weston Bay and the Bristol Channel across to Wales. The church dates from around 1080 AD, but there is evidence that previous places of worship existed on the site, including a Roman temple and a wooden Anglo-Saxon church. The tower and chancel of the church are sound but the nave has no roof. The remains of an 18th century windmill also stand nearby. Brean Down Fort Number of views as of 11th September 2017 = 320. Constructed in the 1860s, Brean Down Fort (Somerset, England) is one of the 'Palmerston Forts', a series of fortifications built across the Bristol Channel to protect the approaches to Bristol and Cardiff. Although staffed by 50 officers and men of the Royal Artillery, the fort never saw active service. The fort was decommissioned in 1900 following an explosion in a gunpowder store, when a certain Gunner Haines fired a cartridge down a ventilation shaft in an apparent suicide attempt. Part of the fort was demolished and debris was blown over 200 metres around. The fort was re-armed during World War Two as a coastal artillery battery and was also used as a test site for laun...
