Wild Turkey Strut, colored pencil on drafting film by Conni Schaftenaar A friend who frequently hunts on our farm sets up game cameras on land where he hunts just to track what is passing by. We do have wild turkeys that frequent our farm, but the friend's game camera caught this guy in full turkey strut display on another farm a couple of miles north of us. He gave me permission to use his photo to do this colored pencil work. This will end up in his "man cave" along with a painting I did for him of his hunting dog. Because the color goes to the edge, this colored pencil work is considered a painting, not a drawing.

A male (cob) mute swan (cygnus olor) on the River Kennet near Newbury, Berkshire in the late afternoon. The mute swan is the UK's largest and heaviest flying bird - as can be seen in their efforts to take off! The male or cob is larger than the female and has a more pronounced black knob at the top of its bill. This species is called the mute swan as it makes far less vocal noise in flight than other swan breeds such as the whooper or Bewick's - in fact you just hear the swoosh of the wings beating! I watched these two ducks for some time and they were definitely a couple. This shows love conquers all; they tenderly touched beaks, swimming together and he defended her against the advances of any other interested parties. I can't wait to see what the kids turn out like!
