designed and sold by Lyvershop
Saint Andrew's Day is celebrated every year in Scotland on 30 November. It is believed that Scotland's patron saint, Andrew the Apostle, was crucified on this date in AD 60. St Andrew officially became the patron saint of Scotland in 1320 when the country's independence was declared with the signing of The Declaration of Arbroath. The celebration of Saint Andrew as a national festival among some social strata and locales is thought to originate from the reign of Malcolm III (1058–1093). However, it is only in more recent times that 30 November has been given national holiday status, although it remains a normal working day. St Andrew was born in Bethesda on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and was the younger brother of St Peter.
