deep below ground in Battery Mishler in what was once a harbor defense command post in World War II, and a harbor entrance control post in world War I, is this burnt out and abandoned power hoist. at one point after the site was no longer in use some vagrants went in there and lit a fire to keep warm, and the entire place went up in flames . Now all that remains is a shell of what once was a powerful and vibrant military center. the low lighting in this photo gives it an otherworldly ghostly effect like trying to peer into the past.

Deep underground in Battery Mishler, Fort Stevens Oregon, behind the furnace, there is a little vent with grass roots coming from the surface, growing down from the vent and nearly touching the floor below.These grass roots grow deep. really deep, into what was at one time an underground harbor defense command post during World War II.low lighting and a long exposure time make the ball of grass roots near the vent appear like a glowing ball of fire in some sci-fi, dystopia of concrete and metal ruins.

It isn't a phone booth or a phone box. It's a telephone room from Battery Mishler which was once a harbor defense command post during World War II. the alcove where the phone once stood now stands empty as theconrete begins to crumble around it. the under ground lighting makes it appear white with blue tones and shadows.

Deep underground in Battery Mishler at fort Stevens Oregon are corridors and hallways to explore via an underground tour of what was a harbor defense command post during world War II, and a harbor entrance control post during World War I. It was in use as early as 1890 if I recall correctly. if you take the tour stay close to your guide because it is seriously dark in there and getting lost could be dangerous and spooky. Bring a good flashlight and non slip shoes. The floor is damp the ceilings are drippy with wetness, the beams are rusty and corroded, and the concrete walls are aged with time. Fort Worden Historical State Park in Port Townsend is a great destination for the day or for a long camping trip.
