Foulger was a Blue Oval dealership on Huntington Drive in Monrovia, California and was one of the first dealerships to dive headfirst into drag racing, sponsoring several drag cars in the '60s and '70s. Their racing logo definitely reflected the times and their top competitors, most notably the 440 powered Plymouth Roadrunners.

Keith Black was an American producer of high-performance drag racing engines. Black first made a name for himself in the mid-1940s in boat racing when he set a world record in his second time out at the Salton Sea running one of his first performance engines. He opened Keith Black Racing Engines in 1959 and by 1961 his boat racing exploits included nearly 50 international and national records. Drag racing teams took notice and Black’s builds for the drag strip became one of the winningest engines in the NHRA in the ’60s and his aluminum engine blocks would dominate the market throughout the ’70s. The engines Keith Black produced were based on the Chrysler 426 Hemi, Chevy Big Block, and Oldsmobile Big Block designs.

More American Graffiti is set over the course of four New Year's Eve holidays beginning in 1964 and tells four separate stories, one of which is that of John Milner, the head honcho of the racing scene in the first film, as his drag racing career advances. John's story follows him and the Milner Racing Team crew through a series of personal and professional ups and downs, culminating in a fatal finale. This Milner Racing Team design is a replica based on a screen used tee, ensuring it's accurate to those seen in the film.

Conceived in 1959 by the Smokers Car Club of Bakersfield as sort of an East vs. West challenge, the March Meet (aka United States Fuel and Gas Championships) became much more than that. Held at Famoso Bakersfield Raceway, the event's reputation as the most fierce outlaw drag race brought competitors from coast to coast. Winning the event gave a drag racer immediate caché as the race was that tough to win in its heyday.

It was Don Blair’s interest in racing the dry lakes that prompted him to opening a small business selling speed parts. If any business contributed to hot rodding in Southern California, it was Blair’s Speed Shop in Gardena where 25-year-old Don opened for business in 1946. From the early days of doing tune-ups and selling used parts to building legendary engines and complete funny cars, Don Blair left an indelible mark on the world of hot rodding.

Drag racing was a far different motorsport back in 1967, when construction concluded on the original quarter-mile. "Supertrack,"a ground up drag strip project funded by a hard-to-believe budget of over $1,000,000. In 1967, drag racing was still struggling to shuck its notorious public image as weekend recreation for juvenile delinquents wearing the inevitable black leather jackets and greasy jeans, but OCIR worked to change those perceptions by building a best-in-class facility that would soon play host to some of the top racing events in the country, including the PDA Championships where legendary drivers and their notorious cars brought the thunder to Orange County.

Tom Beatty was a dry lakes racer who later became a speed shop owner. There were a number of speed manufacturers during the 1950s producing racing cams, heads, etc. and Tom worked for a number of them and truly honed his craft. Tom Beatty Automotive Engineering made all kinds of engines for all kinds of go-fast applications, so whether you were breaking records at Bonneville, tearing up the quarter mile in Fremont, or forcing buddy to hang on for dear life at Lake Elsinore, Tom was your guy. From manifolds to superchargers, Tom made it to his exacting specifications which resulted in engines that ran stronger and pulled harder than anything the big name builders were making.

Riverside International Raceway (sometimes known as Riverside, RIR, or Riverside Raceway) was a motorsports race track and road course established in the Edgemont area of Riverside County, California, just east of the city limits of Riverside and 50 miles east of Los Angeles, in 1957. In 1984, the raceway became part of the newly incorporated city of Moreno Valley. Riverside was noted for its hot, dusty environment and for being a somewhat complicated and dangerous track for drivers, but was also considered one of the finest tracks in America. The track was in operation from September 22, 1957, to July 2, 1989.

Maloney's Racing Slicks was a top independent tire manufacturer in the 60s. They specialized in slicks for drag racing and early NASCAR as well as streetable 'cheater slicks,' all from their small facility right on Anaheim Boulevard in Southern California.

The Catalina Grand Prix was one of the biggest races In the country at the time. It was a 100-mile event held on Santa Catalina Island of the coast of Los Angeles. The 10-mile course was a mixture of road, dirt fire trails, singletrack, and even went through a golf course. Cycle Magazine noted that many of the big AMA national riders skipped Catalina so as not to suffer embarrassment at the hands of Southern California scramble riders who were known to dominate the event.

During the heyday of hot rodding and drag racing in Southern California, Webco Inc. was THE place to get your fix for go-fast goodies. It didn't matter whether you were into cars, motorcycles, or boats - if it had an internal combustion engine, they had the stuff to make it go faster. They made pretty much everything from innovative dual spark plug adapters and custom heads to adjustable suspension bracketry and carburetor performance kids. They eventually used their motocross expertise to enter the emerging BMX market. Webco mags were distinctive 5 spokers and their attempts at suspension frames were considered highly innovative for the time. Their standard frames featured gusset work similar to Cooks Brothers and like their other BMX part

If you grew up riding motorcycles in Southern California in the 1970s and ’80s, you probably remember Indian Dunes. “The Dunes,” as it was known to regulars, was a motorcycle off-road playground located in Valencia, that opened up in 1970 out on Highway 126 in what at the time seemed like the boonies. The 600-acre park had a larger purpose which was to play host to Hollywood studios as a versatile backdrop for all kinds of film and television projects, including what would be the Dukes of Hazzard's most death-defying jump of all time. Of course, most folks remember it as the place to head out with your buddies to ride dirt bikes and dune buggies, or even to take in organized motocross racing events.

The legacy of the Sacramento Mile goes all the way back to 1959 when Grand National champion Carroll Resweber captured the first main at the California State Fairgrounds. Since that historic event, every top flat track motorcycle racer in the world has competed at the California Capitol City's legendary dirt oval, doing battle at speeds topping 140 miles per hour.
