My great-uncle wrote the summer classic, ‘On the Way to Cape May.’ If you are from Jersey or the Philadelphia area, you are probably familiar with the song. This is my little doodle of that ditty, inspired by my dad’s account of his family trips to the shore. I took some liberties with the make/model of the Country Squire, but the rest is based on facts from my dad’s stories.

Cape May, NJ - Surfing Design

The Cape May NJ lighthouse has been in continuous operation since 1859. To get to the top of the lighthouse you will need to climb 199 steps. The Cape May lighthouse was built with two walls. The outside wall is conical in shape and the inner wall is cylindrical. They are strong enough to withstand winds several times hurricane force.

The Cape May Historic District encompasses an area of 380 acres (1.5 km2) with over 600 buildings in the resort town of Cape May, New Jersey. The city claims to be America's first seaside resort and has numerous buildings in the Late Victorian style, including this beauty.

This original painting was inspired by a family trip to my hometown of Cape May, New Jersey, specifically the Cape May Point Nature Center. I love how the sun reflects off the surface of the water and looking at this work, I can almost feel the soft ocean breeze on my skin and see it gently nudge each of the flowers lining the pond. I hope it does the same for you, nature lover!

The shorebirds that run up and down the beach are adorable. And so are the little crabs! Why not put them together?
