Pluto has a surface with regions of dark, light and orange land which change with the seasons, indicating a complex geology and climate. It is thought these regions are made up of nitrogen and methane ices, overlying a rocky core. New Horizons was launched in January 2006, and arrived at Pluto in 2015. Data obtained by the spacecraft's Ralph/Multispectral Visual Imaging Camera (MVIC) on 14th July 2015.

Did I say "planet"...?

Even though the Pluto flyby (New Horizons) mission happened a couple years ago (and the launch over 10 years ago), this little guy with so much love for Earth helped skyrocket my social media game to the next level. The original image was shared on Reddit and is still one of the top posts in /r/nasa as well as shared or copied or sent around the world hundreds of thousands of times.
