The past few weeks, I’ve been watching the grey squirrels in the trees behind our house foraging for food to hibernate over winter. I’ve always liked squirrels so I wanted to produce a new art piece of one to go along with my other wildlife paintings. I’ve tried attracting them to our feeder in the garden, but the pigeons seem to be taking over.

As Eastern grey squirrels forage for nuts, seeds, buds, and flowers of trees they plas an important role in what's known as seed dispersal. Eastern grey squirrels Sciurus carolinensis commonly occur in two colour phases, grey and black, which leads people to think—mistakenly—that there are two different species.
