The race up (and down) Ben Nevis occurs in September each year. It was a warm sunny day the time I went to watch, and it seemed everyone else had the same idea. A crowd of around 200 people had gathered on the wide open space of the summit. So it was remarkable that I managed to capture this one figure - one of the race officials perched with his communication radio without anyone else in view. The building is a small shelter on the summit nestled on the remains of the old observatory / hotel which once stood there. The orange tube is another shelter amongst the ruins. Behind the peaks of Glen Nevis (the Mamores) and Glencoe poke through the cloud. This version is a painting from the original photo, which I've repainted in oil on a 20...
