Hawthorn Flowers Mugs

Hawthorn blossom is one of the most common sites in springtime. Its five petaled blossom has a sweet smell (especially in warm sunshine) and is seen in profusion in the month of May. The flowers are steeped in history and folklore where the most common name is May Blossom.

A beautiful Lady among the hawthorns.

The flowers, leaves, and berries of this woven crown show the progress of the seasons around a wreath of English hawthorn. This design was based on the Arthurian story of Merlin and Vivian; Merlin is said to lie sleeping in, most popularly, a crystal cave, but other versions make his prison a hawthorn tree.

This is my painting of the Missouri state bird, the eastern bluebird and the state flower, the white hawthorn blossom. This is a male bluebird. Missouri was admitted to the union on August 10, 1821 as the 24th state. This is painting is part of my State Birds & Flowers Collection.
