Originally captured on film in February 1984, this is an image of the Langdale Valley, looking up from Elterwater to the Langdale Pikes, which are in Cumbria, United Kingdom. The last time I was there, nothing much had changed except that it was a bit more crowded. The valley is one of the most popular in the Lake District, especially popular with fell walkers (hikers) who set off from here to climb to the fell tops around the valley. The word 'fell' here is a reference to the mountains, the word itself has its origins in a time when Norsemen settled the land in the early middle ages. Loughrigg Tarn is a small, natural lake located in the Lake District of North West England, in the county of Cumbria. Located close to the famous Windermere, it sits very close to the village of Skelwith Bridge, below Loughrigg Fell. Looking out across the tarn, the magnificent Langdale Pikes are visible. This image is of the delightful Blea Tarn in the Lake District National Park in the UK. Beyond the tarn are the Langdale Pikes, some of the most climbed peaks in the park. In case you're wondering why there's a fence projecting out into the lake, it's to stop the sheep from going around the end of the dry stone wall.
