This image was taken from the ridge of the Five Sisters of Kintail. Winter light and aerial perspective give a blue hue to the mountain tops that stand west of Sgurr Fhuaran.

This panoramic painting comes from one of my many trips to the Cairngorms to climb the Munros. On this occasion I mountain biked to the start of Glen Derry and followed trails through the remnants of the Caledonian forest, before breaking out onto the hill (Beinn Bhreac). This view comes at the start of that climb, where the trees and grass give way to heather slopes. On the left is Derry Cairngorm, and the peak in the distance with the 'barns' (local name for isolated outcrops of rock) is Beinn Mheadhoin - both on Munro's list of Scottish peaks. Painted from my original photographs using oil on board 24x12 inches in size.

This painting comes from the view you get at the end of the steep ascent of Beinn Liath Mhor (East Summit) when 'doing' the two Munros of the Achnashellach horseshoe in the Scottish highlands. Its a superb hill walk, and at this point the hard climb had been done, with just a gentle ascent along the ridge to the summit, (926m) a fiddly descent to the col, and steep little pull to Sgorr Ruadh (on the left 962m), and an easy descent off the view to the left. With more energy you might tackle the Corbett Fuar Tholl (907m), but it does look daunting with its scramble ascent. The prominent peak in the background is Ben Damph in the Torridon range. The race up (and down) Ben Nevis occurs in September each year. It was a warm sunny day the time I went to watch, and it seemed everyone else had the same idea. A crowd of around 200 people had gathered on the wide open space of the summit. So it was remarkable that I managed to capture this one figure - one of the race officials perched with his communication radio without anyone else in view. The building is a small shelter on the summit nestled on the remains of the old observatory / hotel which once stood there. The orange tube is another shelter amongst the ruins. Behind the peaks of Glen Nevis (the Mamores) and Glencoe poke through the cloud. This version is a painting from the original photo, which I've repainted in oil on a 20...
