Scaly Breasted Lorikeet Mugs

Not so long ago there was concern for the future of the scaly breasted lorikeet, but they seem to be back in good numbers these days. This shot was taken by Lake Baroon, Maleny, where I often take my students at the end of a workshop.

Not as common as the rainbow lorikeets but just as cheeky. In fact they were on the threatened list about ten years ago but now making a comeback. This shot was taken at Banksia Beach, Bribie Island

This Scaly Breasted Lorikeet must have had some late nights - he's got a bad case of red eye! These gorgeous native parrots live in the Land Of Parrots at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia.
