Dixson Incorporated (aka Dixco) was launched in 1958 by Bruce Dixson with a sole focus on making tachometers, an important instrument that was frequently omitted by manufacturers of domestic vehicles in America and one that hot rodders, drag racers, and muscle car tuners wanted. Dixson made a variety of styles of tachs for both interior dash applications and exterior hood mounts, the 'Can Tac' being one of the more popular of the latter. Dixson ended up taking over the operations of General Meters in 1963, a financially failing company that supplied Dixco with the internal movements for their tachometers. In 1987, Dixco sold out to a multinational OEM supplier to a multitude of industries that continued to offer many of the Dixco designs.

The York US30 Dragway was located at the York Airport in Thomasville, Pennsylvania from '65 until '79 by Oscar Hostetter. The South Penn Hot Rod Council first ran drag races at the airport site on a limited schedule from '55 until '59, when promoter Bill Holz assumed control in '60, operating it as York US30 Drag-O-Way. Hostetter took over again in '65, operating the facility as the York US30 Dragway, and putting on the biggest event in drag racing history – the 1965 Super Stock Nationals. Others followed, but none have attained the notoriety or attendance of the '65 event, which is still the largest single day drag race in American history.

The year was 1946 when a small hot rod shop opened up on Gratiot Avenue in Detroit and by 1960, they had expanded to half a dozen stores throughout Michigan and were known as the 'world's largest hot rod shops.' Unlike a lot of speed shops, Gratiot Auto Supply locations weren't just fronts for mail order dealers - they had hardware on the shelves, so no waiting for that new set of headers for your small block to come in from Los Angeles - they were in stock and ready to rock. From cross members and frame rails to cheater slicks and crate motors, they stocked literally everything a guy would need to build a car from the ground up, something no other retail store could come close to pulling off.
