Around Athens are many architectural remnants of the glorious past of Greece, but the greatest of all is the assemblage of temples and the like within the Acropolis complex. This image is of the colonnade at the eastern end of the Erechtheion Those columns have stood there for maybe 2500 years. Remarkable! What I love about this image is the overall duo tone, the marble's orange against the cloudy blue sky.

The Erechtheionn within the Acropolis complex in Athens is really something to see. It's been decades since you could approach many of the structures that reside within the complex, but no such problem when I was there in 1972; I have a separate picture of me sitting on the stones beneath caryatids, Of course, this is a much more recent image, but today's regimen does mean that there are no pesky tourists in the way when you want to capture an image of this ancient piece of Greek architecture. We had climbed up to the Acropolis early to get ahead of the crowds, a privilege we enjoyed for just a short while.
