Kastelorizo (also known as "Meghisti") is a tiny, remote island on the edge of the Greek territory ("off the map"), very close to the southern Turkish coast, but it's one of the best places in Greece for romantic holidays, a real "cocoon", for those who seek some serenity!

Walking in the alleys of the old town of Chania is like a time travel and i think this one proves it. This is taken in the neighborhood of "Tophanas" (or "Topanas" or "Top Hanas"), which means "house of balls" because during the years of Ottoman occupation, that was the place where the Turks kept their cannonballs. Walking around the picturesque streets of Chora in Kythira (or "Cythera") island (Greece), you can see 3 different styles of Architecture: Venetian, Cretan and Cycladic. This particular spot with the "Fossa" (arch) reminds mostly the cycladic architecture.

Roussanou Monastery (Meteora, Trikala, Thessaly, Greece) is also know as Agias Varvaras Monastery. It was established (probably) around 1388 by the monks Necodemus and Benedict. Today functions as a nunnery. Open to visitors daily, except Wednesday, from 09:00-14:00 (winter) and 09:00-18:00 (summer).

This is part of the small picturesque harbor of Molyvos (or "Mythimna"), where the fishermen "park" their boats. A lovely place for a walk, where you can find the best places of the town for a food or a drink, but also enjoy the beautiful view of the main part of the town, "climbing" the hill, leading to medieval castle. Molyvos' fabulous architecture, with the stone houses and the colourful windows is quite unusual for a Greek island, reminds the architecture that someone can see in the greek mainland especially in villages and towns of the mountainous northern Greece. One more of the "trademarks" of Mykonos is this beautiful byzantine church, Panagia Paraportiani. It is one of the oldest in the island. It is also one of the most "famous" churches in the Aegean and certainly the most famous of Mykonos. "Paraportiani" means "by the door" and it took its name from a nearby door of the old and now almost "dissapeared" castle. Many people think that the building is only one church, while Panagia Paraportiani is only a small church on the "1st floor" where the dome is and there are two diferent churches on ground level all of them "stuck" together. NISYROS (Dodecanese, Aegean Sea, Greece)! What a beautiful island! Really stole my heart, not only for its surreal volcanic landscapes or Mandraki the beautiful seaside "Hora" but also for 2 picturesque mountainous villages, Empoureio and Nikeia. Here you see the main square of Nikeia village, called "Porta" (means "door"). About 50 years ago Nikeia had a population of 3.000 people, today its inhabitants are only 48! The rest of them left the island in search of a better future, mostly in USA and Australia. But they keep returning every summer to see their village and take care of their family houses. Nikeia lies right above the volcano. You 'll have the chance to see it in one of my future posts.
