I did it with the intention of the character being more like a gate keeper to another world and perhaps who speaks in more metaphorical means in order to lull Alice into the Rabbit hole (the purple behind him). "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date" sort of thing. Plus I always thought other representations made such a great character kind of a square. At the time I was studying a lot about Roman history and Caesar's civil war and I came up with an abstract concept about Julius Caesar. This is an idea that he had to maintain a stone like facade and keep control of his tongue in order to maintain that sort of power while underneath he was merely a man of flesh and bone. #artJWB
