Cobblestone homes, barns and churches are unique to central and western New York. The proliferation of these structures in the 1820’s and 1830’s was due to a unique set of circumstances. The Completion of the Erie Canal meant the many (mostly Italian) stone masons, who had built the locks, where looking for work, many of the farmers and business men in the area near the new canal were gaining great wealth, since their products could now be shipped to major market at a reasonable cost and Finally the unique geolo...

Here an early 19th century building lives on proudly with it's late 20th century expansions. Many of the modest cobblestone houses have had renovations and expanded, some to the point of making them hardly recognizable. This one, while the expansion is extreme has managed to maintain the charm of the original structure.
