41st United States (Colored) Infantry Regiment The 41st United States (Colored) Infantry Regiment was one of six segregated regiments (2 cavalry and 4 infantry) created in 1866 following the American Civil War to provide for African American participation in the defense of the United States. During the American Civil War, the U.S. government formed regiments known as the United States Colored Troops, composed of black soldiers.
