One more photo from lake Plastiras (Karditsa, Thessaly, Greece), taken from an observation post, at an altitude of 1450 meters. The lake's altitude is around 750-800. In order to get to the observation post you 'll have to pass Belekomytis village with direction to the south and you'll see a sign to the right, writing "Observation post" in Greek ("Παρατηρητήριο"). From there it's a 3 km drive. The last 2 km on a dirtroad. The observation post was originally destined for birdwatchers, but the view of the lake is so beautiful that noone watches the passing birds

Plastiras lake, is an artificial lake, located where Nevropolis Plateau used to be before the construction of the dam that created this lake in 1959. The works had started since 1954. The dam is 83 m tall and 220 m long. The lake covers a surface of 24 sq. km and "hosts" 400.000.000 m3 of water. Three were the main purposes of its construction: 1) hydroelectic power, 2) the water supply of Karditsa, Sofades and 35 villages, 3) the irrigation of the plains of Karditsa. Something that no one, and even more the inhabitants of the region, expected was that a new beautiful landscape would be created.
