Reach for the sky is a painting I created from one of the many reference photos I have captured of gum trees in my local area and on family bushwalks. I love to observe the gum trees sculpture, colors and texture and how their branches reach for the sky. Each one is a work of art. This one has pink bark that is shedding off its trunk.

Ivy Leaved Violets (Viola Hederacea) are very common in the woodlands of Southern Australia in Spring. Their tiny flowers are hard to photograph as they are so close to the ground. I was lucky to find this one growing down a bank - it just meant I had to stand in a ditch to get to eye level!

These pretty blue flowers are Blue Stars (Chamaescilla Corymbas), and they are flowering everywhere in the woodlands of Southern Australia at present - it's Spring! Their vivid blue makes them easy to see. Found at Hochkins Ridge Flora Reserve in croydon North, Victoria, Australia.

Native plant round these parts

These tiny Twining Fringe Lilies (Thysanotus Patersonii) are everywhere in the woods at present - it's Spring! Their little purple flowers decorate the undergrowth.

Prickly Tea Tree (Leptospermum Continentale) is one of the very few Tea Trees which grow inland - most of them are coastal. This one likes open woodlands and heath. The pink flowers along the stems make a pretty picture in Spring.

There are very few native plants in flower in Autumn and Winter in Australia. Correa Reflexa is one of the few which do. I was lucky to find this less common red variety at Hochkins Ridge Flora Reserve in Victoria, Australia.

This is my entry for the local Wildflower Festival's annual art competition. I spent an entire weekend hunting for wildflowers, which may be hard to tell based on how I opted to use mostly leaves in this. What can I say? I'm a sucker for greenery.

Australian flowers

Spider orchids are another mid October flower - but this one was flowering in solitary splendour in mid September! This beauty is a Veined Spider Orchid or Caladenia Tentaculata) and was found at Baluk Willam Reserve in Victoria.

Bees have host relationships too!

Bumbles, leafcutters, sweat bees, small carpenter bees--the six-legged greatest hits of the Ontario suburban garden, and a few of the native plants that bring 'em to the yard.
